New Year's Eve in a Dutch Kitchen

We recently spent two weeks back home with our families in Ontario. A special treat was the delicious home cooking that we were treated to in both households. One particular treat was the traditional Dutch items that came out of my mom's kitchen on New Year's Eve. Many Dutch immigrants and their families will be familiar with these deep-fried delicacies: Olliebollen and Kroketten.

After one side of the Olliebollen is cooked, the dough ball rolls over on its own.

A picture of the Kroketten in the oil.

The finished Olliebollen.

Of course, the only way to eat an Olliebollen is to dip it in unhealthy amounts of icing sugar.
