The Death Star 1.0 is really, really expensive. A recent study performed by students at Lehigh University suggested that it would cost at least $852 quadrillion to build the first Death Star. More problematic is the fact that, with the current rates of global steel production, it would take approximately 833,315 years before enough steel would be acquired.
And really, who really wants a star-destroying space station that can be blown up by a single X-wing, some force sensitivity, and a proton torpedo?
It's too bad, you know. For the small price of $250 you can purchase an industrial ventilation cap for that exhaust port. Boom, problem solved! I'd like to see a force-adept get through that.

ReplyDeleteKris: You think they would know, but I think overconfidence has always been the downfall of the Empire. It's a classic character trait of the Sith. Need I remind you of the exchange between Emperor Palpatine and Luke in Episode VI:

David: It's a chicken or the egg question: did the empire rule with a tight fist so that they could build a planet-destroying space station or did they build the planet-destroying space station so that they could rule with a tight fist? It's quite the quandary.
