Jump-starting the Ol' Blog

My blog has become dilapidated, unmaintained, abandoned to the cyber weeds; however, I do have the best of intentions. Maintaining a blog (in theory) gives a person a forum where he is forced to practice his writing. Just as the shooting guard in basketball should take a certain amount of practice shots each day to maintain his skills and expand his range, the writer should make it his aim to write a particular amount of words on a regular basis to hone his craft. 

I enjoy writing. There is something extremely satisfying about constructing a sentence that is crisp and communicates an idea or an emotion with maximal clarity. In hopes of increasing the frequency of those types of sentences my goal is to get my practice in here—for the entire world to see my clumsy clauses. 

Grad school—the demanding mistress that she is—absorbs much of my brain’s creative potential and leaves little room for other novel thinking (who can draft an artistically masterful, intellectually brilliant lead while parsing Piel and Pual verbs? Not I!). So you won’t be wowed by a keen intellect or top-rate communication skills in any of the following posts. In fact, all you’ll be getting is my mental leftovers. 

I hope to write two or three posts per week. The will be short in length (about 100–150 words). The content of each post will simply be one thing that I found interesting in my studies that day. I’ll select one thing about my studies—perhaps from a lecture or course reading—that stood out to me at day’s end. In the process, perhaps you, my reader, will get a better sense of the sorts of things running through a seminarian’s mind during the semester.
