There are many off-ramps that branch off from the Internet, that information superhighway that has come to determine so much of our lives; too many of those off-ramps lead to places of darkness. Little more needs to be said to this point, since the danger of detours into dark places is one that threatens all who travel down the well-travelled, fast-paced Infobahn.
With so many corners to cyberspace it is surprising—disheartening even—to find so little light, so little life. Darkness spreads itself into the far reaches, masquerading as a place of refuge for the lost, lonely, and lifeless; in truth though, he offers only death.
There was an old man, writing from the ancient city of Ephesus (in modern-day Turkey), who said that life is found in the light. This man, whose name was John, said there existed a life-giving light that would not be overcome. Not by pain, grief, loneliness, betrayal, sickness, death, or any evil in the world! This light that John spoke of was not found in a place or a thing, but a person (c.f. John 1).
This person, this Light, is pushing back the darkness in all the spheres of creation. He causes the darkness to flee by his presence. One day all darkness will be extinguished and the all will find life and healing in his presence.
The aim of this corner of the Internet is not to introduce you to myself (though writing almost always reveals something of the writer), but to the Light. His name is Jesus. He is the light who has brought us out of darkness and into his light (2 Peter 2:9-10). My hope is that this may be one of the avenues where this marvelous light is clearly proclaimed.
In my next post I will lay out some particular plans I have for this space and what type of content you can expect to find here.
