This image is particularly helpful for anyone reading through (or teaching) the books of Exodus or Numbers. Why do Exodus and Numbers spend so much time giving instructions about the Tabernacle? What is so special about a desert tent?
The significance of God's tabernacle instructions was first impressed upon me in the Bible Survey course that I am currently taking with Dr. Michael Williams, author of How to Read the Bible Through the Jesus Lens (2012). The Tabernacle points towards the needs we are unable to meet and anticipates God meeting our need for salvation and cleansing by sending his Son, Jesus. Prof. Williams' lecture on Exodus and the Tabernacle so intrigued me that I took to re-reading the book of Exodus shortly thereafter, paying special attention to how the Tabernacle anticipates Jesus. Tim Challies infographic does a good job showing the Christ focus of the Tabernacle that Prof. Williams was demonstrating in class. Challies' recent review of Prof. Williams' book is available here.
