Strategy for Memorizing Large Portions of Scripture

So, I'm terrible at memorizing Scripture. Even when my weak attempts bring short-term success, in the transfer from the cage of my short-term memory (cram, cram, cram!) to long-term memory (yes, I memorized this in the KJV thirty years ago) the verse leaps free and scurries back onto the pages of my Bible.
It's something I want to work on. Here is an interesting article on memorizing large portions of Scripture (I believe this falls into the "Go big or go home" category). The strategy used by the article's author makes sense: continued audio repetition over a portion of time. I mean, how many of us can repeat verbatim the obnoxious commercials we see on television simply through hearing them so often!

If you found the gumption to memorize a large chunk of Scripture, what would you choose?
