The futures of the Christian Reformed Church and its sister denomination, the Reformed Church in America, are closely linked. Much effort is being made to increase the mutual participation between the two denominations (the chief example being the several joint church planting zones). Therefore, it is important to be watching the other closely. The CRC concluded its Synod a couple weeks ago. The RCA has since finished its Synod up as well. Here is an important summary from Kevin DeYoung on two key points from the RCA Synod concerning (1) homosexuality and (2) the ordination of women.
On the issue of homosexuality, conservatives within the denomination sought to affirm the biblical testimony that homosexual behavior is sinful. Instead, the overture committee decided to produce a recommendation that would prohibit the ordination of homosexuals, the performing of same-sex marriages or unions, discipline against persons in same-sex relationships or office-bearers who support same-sex unions, and debate about the subject. All the while, a study committee would stall the issue out until the good ol' hermeneutic of popular opinion won the battle for the liberals.
I would recommend checking out DeYoung's summary here.
